THE NEW EVIDENCE
THAT DEMANDS A VERDICT

Josh McDowell

Those of us who are a little older can remember how our teachers would have us make outlines before we undertook any writing or research paper. It made things a lot easier when it came time for the actual paper writing, and with the ideas right there on paper we could expound all we wanted on the outline.

That is what Josh McDowell did when he wrote this book. The plus in his book is that he left the outline and expounded upon it. I like reading that sort of stuff and it makes it easier to refer back to certain areas of interest.

Josh makes it plain in his book that he started out a skeptic whose mission it was to prove the Bible to be wrong and to discredit God by doing so. God on the other hand did what He has done to so many others who have started the same undertaking, and instead of Josh finding errors, fables and contradictions, he found that God is real and that His Word, the Bible, was written by Holy Spirit filled authors.

If you were not a believer before reading this book you would have to be when you finished; that is if you are true to yourself. This book is a Bible debunker's nightmare and many Christians use this book not only to prove to others that the Bible is God's word and that God is for real, but in a day and age when we have to be accountable for what we know, Josh's book gives us the answers that we sometimes need to know about our own faith.

I'll be the first to admit that it's not an easy read. It's a long book and has many chapters and subsections. I've taken the approach of taking one section at a time, learning from it then putting the book down for a while. Then, after a hiatus, I pick another section to read. That is how I read through this book without getting tired of it and shelving it for good. The information in the book is priceless, and as you can see, Josh has made a new version that updated sections to answer some of the new questions that contemporary people have asked.

MY RECOMMENDATION:

Buy it and read it in spurts. When finished, you'll not only know what you believe, but why you believe it. If you have a skeptic friend who has an open mind and is honest with him/herself then buy them a copy. The book is relatively inexpensive considering what you get. You can get it at any Christian bookstore. I picked it up on sale at Christian Book at www.christianbook.com . Happy reading and learning.
