|
A DOZEN GOOD REASONS FOR
|
|
|
GOAL |
SCRIPTURE |
|
1. To find out what Yeshua is like in order to become more like Him. |
If I then, [your]
Lord and Master, have washed your feet; ye also ought to wash one
another's feet. For I have given you an example, that ye should do as I
have done to you. Verily, verily, I say unto you, The servant is not
greater than his lord; neither he that is sent greater than he that sent
him. If ye know these things, happy are ye if ye do them. John
13:14-17 |
|
2. To increase your knowledge of the credentials of the Scriptures and of Yeshua |
I speak not of you
all: I know whom I have chosen: but that the scripture may be fulfilled,
He that eateth bread with me hath lifted up his heel against me. Now I
tell you before it come, that, when it is come to pass, ye may believe
that I am [He]. John 13:18-19 (See also John 14:29) |
| 3. To learn the what and the how of becoming more loving. | A new commandment I
give unto you, That ye love one another; as I have loved you, that ye also
love one another. By this shall all [men] know that ye are my disciples,
if ye have love one to another. John 13:34-35 (See also John
17:25-26 |
| 4. To increase your understanding of our new status and destiny of Children of God. | Let not your heart
be troubled: ye believe in God, believe also in me. In my Father's house
are many mansions: if [it were] not [so], I would have told you. I go to
prepare a place for you. And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will
come again, and receive you unto myself; that where I am, [there] ye may
be also. John 14:1-3 |
| 5. To increase your understanding of who God is and what He is like | Jesus saith unto
him, I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father,
but by me. If ye had known me, ye should have known my Father also: and
from henceforth ye know him, and have seen him. Philip saith unto him,
Lord, shew us the Father, and it sufficeth us. Jesus saith unto him, Have
I been so long time with you, and yet hast thou not known me, Philip? he
that hath seen me hath seen the Father; and how sayest thou [then], Shew
us the Father? Believest thou not that I am in the Father, and the Father
in me? the words that I speak unto you I speak not of myself: but the
Father that dwelleth in me, he doeth the works. John 14:6-10 |
| 6. To discover the ways and means of super-natural living so that in our daily lives we may ex-perience and express the pleasant difference that God makes. | Verily, verily, I say unto you, He that believeth on me, the works that I do shall he do also; and greater [works] than these shall he do; because I go unto my Father. John 14:12 |
|
7. To present oppor-tunities for answered prayer by making our requests known to God. |
And whatsoever ye shall ask in my name, that will I do, that the Father may be glorified in the Son. If ye shall ask any thing in my name, I will do [it]. John 14:13-14 |
| 8. To develop an under-standing of the way in which God wants us to live, that we might obey Him and have more intimate fellowship with Him. | If ye love me, keep
my commandments. And I will pray the Father, and he shall give you another
Comforter, that he may abide with you for ever; [Even] the Spirit of
truth; whom the world cannot receive, because it seeth him not, neither
knoweth him: but ye know him; for he dwelleth with you, and shall be in
you. I will not leave you comfortless: I will come to you. Yet a little
while, and the world seeth me no more; but ye see me: because I live, ye
shall live also. At that day ye shall know that I [am] in my Father, and
ye in me, and I in you. He that hath my commandments, and keepeth them, he
it is that loveth me: and he that loveth me shall be loved of my Father,
and I will love him, and will manifest myself to him. John 14:15-21

| 9. To live spiritually fruitful lives. | I am the true vine,
and my Father is the husbandman ....Abide in me, and I in you. As the
branch cannot bear fruit of itself, except it abide in the vine; no more
can ye, except ye abide in me. I am the vine, ye [are] the branches: He
that abideth in me, and I in him, the same bringeth forth much fruit: for
without me ye can do nothing. John 15:1, 4-5 |
| 10. To increase our joy. | These things have I spoken unto you, that my joy might remain in you, and [that] your joy might be full. John 15:11 |
| 11. To be prepared to recognize and deal with hindrances to our spiritual lives. | If the world hate you, ye know that it hated me before [it hated] you....If they have persecuted me, they will also persecute you.... But when the Comforter is come....he shall testify of me. And ye also shall bear witness...These things have I spoken unto you, that ye should not be offended (made to stumble). John 15:18 - 16:1 |
| 12. To increase our peace. | These things I have spoken unto you, that in me ye might have peace. In the world ye shall have tribulation: but be of good cheer; I have overcome the world. John 16:33 |
